The under-eye area is one of the most commonly treated areas in aesthetics – and also one of the easiest areas to get wrong.
Dark circles, eye bags, puffiness, fine lines, crepey skin, dehydration and tear-trough hollowing can look similar at first glance, but they do not necessarily have the same cause and should not automatically be treated with the same product.
For practitioners, successful under-eye rejuvenation starts with identifying what is actually creating the concern before deciding whether the client needs hydration, drainage, regenerative support, improved skin quality, gentle plumping or structural correction.
At FYAB, we stock a wide range of professional under-eye treatment products covering different treatment objectives – from targeted solutions for dark circles and fluid-filled eye bags to HA skin boosters, PN/PDRN formulations, regenerative treatments and products for structural correction.
The important thing is choosing the right formulation for the right client.
👁️ First: Not All Under-Eye Concerns Are the Same
A client saying “I hate my under-eyes” doesn’t actually tell us very much.
Practitioners may be looking at one or several different concerns:
- Dark circles or discolouration
- Puffiness and fluid retention
- Under-eye bags
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Thin or crepey skin
- Dehydration
- Loss of elasticity
- Tear-trough hollowing or volume loss
- General ageing and deterioration in skin quality
Correct assessment matters because a product that is excellent for dry, crepey and volume-depleted under-eyes may be completely unsuitable for somebody already predisposed to retaining fluid.
This is particularly important when considering Hyaluronic Acid (HA).
💧 Hyaluronic Acid Under the Eyes: More Isn’t Always Better
Hyaluronic Acid is an exceptional hydrating ingredient because of its ability to attract and retain water.
For appropriately selected clients, this makes HA-containing under-eye treatments extremely useful for improving hydration, plumpness, elasticity and the appearance of fine lines.
However, the under-eye area requires careful client selection.
A client who already presents with puffiness, oedema, malar bags or a tendency to retain fluid beneath the eyes may not be the ideal candidate for a high-HA product.
Because HA attracts and retains water, adding significant amounts of HA to an area already prone to fluid retention may potentially make the area appear more puffy rather than less.
This doesn’t mean HA is bad for under-eyes.
It simply means:
The product has to match the client.
This is one of the reasons FYAB stocks so many different under-eye treatment products rather than recommending one universal eye treatment.
👁️ Eye Bags & Puffiness: Think Drainage, Not Simply More Hydration
When the primary concern is fluid-filled bags or puffiness, practitioners should think differently from treating simple dehydration.
One of our favourite options for this indication is Derma 2.0 Eye.
Derma 2.0 Eye was specifically formulated for the periocular area and contains a targeted combination including:
Caffeine – commonly used to support microcirculation.
Artichoke Extract – particularly useful within formulations targeting water retention and puffiness.
Vitamin C – provides antioxidant and brightening support.
Acetyl Hexapeptide-30 – a biomimetic peptide incorporated to support the appearance of fine lines around the eye area.
Rather than simply flooding the area with HA, Derma 2.0 Eye has been formulated specifically around puffiness, fluid-filled bags, microcirculation and revitalisation.
This makes it particularly interesting when the client’s complaint is:
“My eyes always look puffy or tired.”
rather than:
“My under-eye skin is dry and crepey.”
🌑 Dark Circles: Identify Why They Are Dark
“Dark circles” is another broad description rather than one single concern.
Their appearance may be influenced by pigmentation, vascular visibility, thin skin, poor microcirculation, shadowing from hollowing, deterioration in skin quality – or a combination of several factors.
This means there isn’t one universal dark circle treatment suitable for everybody.
Derma 2.0 Eye for Dark Circles & Bags
Derma 2.0 Eye is one of our go-to options where dark circles occur alongside puffiness, poor microcirculation and a tired-looking eye contour.
This makes it particularly useful when the practitioner is dealing with dark circles AND bags, rather than simply dehydrated skin.
🖤 Reglory Eyes Black – Higher-Strength PN for Regeneration
For practitioners looking for a more concentrated regenerative PN option, Reglory Eyes Black contains 20mg of high-purity Polynucleotide in a 2ml syringe – equivalent to 10mg/ml or 1% PN.
This makes it particularly interesting where the treatment objective extends beyond simple hydration to concerns such as:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Loss of firmness
- Poor skin quality
- Dark or tired-looking under-eyes
- Loss of elasticity
- More advanced signs of ageing
Rather than relying upon a high concentration of HA for its effect, the focus here is PN-based regenerative skin support.
That distinction can be particularly useful when practitioners want to improve the quality of delicate under-eye skin without choosing a heavily HA-dependent formulation.
✨ Reglory Eyes – Targeted Under-Eye PN
Reglory Eyes provides another targeted under-eye option.
Its formulation contains:
Polynucleotide – 2mg/ml
Niacinamide – 3mg/ml
Oligopeptide-91 (Clostridium Botulinum Polypeptide-1)
This combination makes Reglory Eyes particularly interesting for practitioners targeting fine lines, skin quality, elasticity, hydration and dark or tired-looking under-eyes.
Niacinamide provides additional support for skin tone and skin quality, while the PN component provides regenerative support.
So even within the category of PN eye treatments, formulations aren’t interchangeable.
This is why we always encourage practitioners to look beyond the front of the box and understand what is actually inside the product and what they are trying to achieve for their client.
🧬 Plenhyage XL Medium – 2% PN for Under-Eye Rejuvenation
Plenhyage XL Medium provides another polynucleotide-based approach to under-eye rejuvenation.
Containing 2% high molecular weight Polynucleotides (PN), Plenhyage XL Medium is designed to support skin regeneration, hydration, elasticity and fibroblast activity.
The Medium formulation is particularly interesting for delicate areas such as the under-eyes and can be considered where the treatment objective includes:
- Fine lines
- Dehydrated skin
- Early signs of ageing
- Loss of elasticity
- Poor skin quality
- Tired-looking under-eyes
- General regenerative rejuvenation
Rather than simply providing a temporary plumping effect, the objective of a PN treatment is to support progressive improvement in the quality and condition of the skin.
For practitioners specifically looking for a PN treatment for delicate under-eye skin, Plenhyage Medium is therefore another useful option to have available.
🧬 Plenhyage XL Strong – More Intensive Regenerative Support
Plenhyage XL Strong provides the stronger option within the Plenhyage range.
It is designed for more intensive regenerative treatment, supporting skin repair, cell turnover, collagen production, elasticity and hydration.
This can make Plenhyage Strong particularly interesting when practitioners are addressing:
- More advanced signs of ageing
- Reduced elasticity
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Deterioration in skin quality
- Clients requiring more intensive regenerative support
As always, stronger doesn’t automatically mean better.
The appropriate formulation should be selected according to the client’s skin, treatment area, presentation and treatment objective.
Practitioners wanting to compare the two formulations can view the complete Plenhyage professional range.
🛠️ Derma 2.0 Restorer – An HA-Free Approach
One of the most useful products to understand when selecting under-eye treatments is Derma 2.0 Restorer.
Restorer is a monoactive organic silicon solution designed to support connective tissue and the synthesis of collagen and elastin.
Importantly for under-eye product selection, Restorer isn’t an HA-based skin booster.
That makes it an extremely useful option when the practitioner’s objective is improving the appearance of:
- Thin or crepey under-eye skin
- Loss of elasticity
- Fine lines
- Poor tissue quality
- Age-related deterioration
without introducing a high concentration of Hyaluronic Acid into the area.
It can therefore be particularly interesting when a practitioner wants regenerative and structural skin support but has reservations about introducing significant HA into a client predisposed to puffiness.
🌿 Derma 2.0 Bio – Intensive Hydration & Full Rejuvenation
At the other end of the spectrum is Derma 2.0 Bio.
Bio is one of the most comprehensive formulations within the Derma 2.0 range and is affectionately known as the Ultimate Glass Facial.
Its formulation contains three molecular weights of Hyaluronic Acid at a total concentration of 40mg/ml, alongside 22mg/ml Polynucleotides, vitamins A, B, C and E, amino acids, peptides, DMAE, Argireline, glutathione and other actives.
For the right client, it is an incredible under-eye rejuvenation option.
Think:
Dry + crepey + ageing + fine lines + poor skin quality
rather than:
Puffy + fluid-retaining + swollen.
⚠️ Client Selection with Derma 2.0 Bio Matters
Because Bio contains a substantial 40mg/ml HA, careful assessment of the under-eye area is particularly important.
If the client is already predisposed to puffiness or fluid retention, practitioners should consider whether introducing a high-HA formulation is actually appropriate.
This is a perfect example of why the question shouldn’t be:
“What’s the best under-eye product?”
It should be:
“What’s the best under-eye product for this particular client?”
💧 Sosum Soft – Hydration, Rejuvenation & Gentle Plumping
For clients whose primary concern is dehydration, fine lines and a tired or slightly hollow-looking under-eye, Sosum Soft Skin Booster is another excellent option.
Sosum Soft contains 45mg of Hyaluronic Acid in each 3ml syringe and provides a combination of hydration and gentle plumping.
It can be particularly useful where the practitioner wants to achieve:
- Improved under-eye hydration
- Gentle plumping
- Softer-looking fine lines
- Improved appearance of dry or crepey skin
- General rejuvenation
- A fresher and smoother-looking eye contour
This makes Sosum Soft a great general hydration, rejuvenation and plumping option for appropriately selected under-eye clients.
It is also useful to distinguish Sosum Soft from PN products.
A PN treatment is generally selected with progressive regenerative skin-quality support in mind, whereas Sosum Soft offers practitioners a more directly HA-led hydration and plumping approach.
Neither is universally “better” – they’re simply different tools for different clients.
Who Might Not Suit Sosum Soft Under the Eyes?
Again, HA content matters.
Sosum Soft contains 45mg HA per 3ml syringe, so practitioners should carefully assess clients who are already predisposed to:
- Puffiness
- Fluid retention
- Oedema
- Malar bags
- Previous problems with HA beneath the eyes
For a dry, slightly hollow, non-puffy under-eye, HA hydration and gentle plumping may be exactly what the practitioner wants.
For an already fluid-filled under-eye, it may be the opposite.
🧬 Derma 2.0 PN & PDRN – Regeneration with Much Lower HA
Another regenerative option within the FYAB range is Derma 2.0 PN & PDRN Solution.
This is particularly interesting when comparing formulations because it contains:
PN & PDRN – 45mg per vial / 9mg/ml combined
alongside:
Non-cross-linked Hyaluronic Acid – 10mg per vial / 2mg/ml
plus Trehalose and Allantoin.
That means it still provides an element of HA-supported hydration, but its HA concentration is dramatically lower than something such as Derma 2.0 Bio at 40mg/ml.
Its main objective is regenerative support – helping improve skin structure, elasticity, hydration and the appearance of ageing.
For practitioners, this again demonstrates why simply referring to products as “skin boosters” doesn’t tell the whole story.
The actual ingredient concentrations matter.
Tear Troughs: Hydration, Regeneration or Structural Correction?
This is where practitioners need to distinguish skin rejuvenation from structural correction.
The term “tear trough treatment” can cover several very different treatment objectives.
For some clients, the apparent hollow is exaggerated by dehydrated, thin or crepey skin.
In these cases, improving hydration and skin quality with products such as Sosum Soft, Plenhyage, Reglory, Derma 2.0 Bio, Derma 2.0 PN & PDRN or Restorer may significantly improve the overall appearance of the area.
For others, the problem is predominantly true anatomical hollowing and volume loss.
That’s an important distinction.
A regenerative treatment or skin booster can improve the quality, hydration, texture and appearance of the skin, but practitioners shouldn’t expect a skin-quality treatment to behave exactly like a structural dermal filler.
A simple way of looking at it is:
Skin booster / PN / PDRN / regenerative product → improve the skin
HA skin booster such as Sosum Soft → hydration + gentle plumping + skin rejuvenation
Dermal filler → structural volume restoration where appropriately indicated
And sometimes the best treatment plan isn’t choosing one or the other – it is recognising that the client has more than one underlying concern.
Practitioners can explore the full FYAB Under-Eye Treatment range to compare products for different treatment objectives.
What About Previous Tear-Trough Filler?
Previous HA treatment beneath the eyes should always form part of consultation and assessment.
A client presenting with under-eye puffiness may already have HA present from previous tear-trough or skin-booster treatments.
That makes treatment history particularly important before simply adding another HA-rich product because the skin appears dehydrated.
Practitioners should establish:
- What was previously used?
- Where was it placed?
- When was the treatment performed?
- Did the client experience prolonged swelling or puffiness?
- Is the current concern actually dehydration, or could previous treatment be contributing to the appearance?
Again, assessment comes before product selection.
👁️ Don’t Forget Professional Eye Homecare
Treatment doesn’t have to end when the client leaves the clinic.
